Lees Optical Instrument Co., Inc. was the first to offer sapphire hard seat technology when the hard seat option was developed for LM1 and LM2 optical mounts. This technology is standard on all LM1, LM2, and LM3 optical mounts.
Sapphire technology was chosen for its hardness, second only to diamond, and an optical quality polished surface finish. The sapphire disk is available in 3/16 or 1/4 inch diameters.
The vee is also unique in that it is constructed from two hardend and lapped steel cylinders. The cylinders are arranged to form a 60° vee at the tangency point of the ball and cylinders.
